Early this spring, I had the pleasure of photographing Jonathan and Kelly’s engagement session in Surf City, NC. Surf City is a really popular location for beach weddings and portraits.

Kelly told me that she and her fiancé were really into the outdoors and wanted to be able to see all the details of the outdoor surroundings in their engagement photos. As most North Carolinians know, we had an extremely cold winter and their engagement session was my first portrait session of the year. So, I was really excited about their session and thought it would be a great idea to incorporate some lovely flower props into some of their photos. For their session we started out at the Surf City Ocean Pier and worked our way over to one of my favorite spots at Soundside Park.

For Jonathan and Kelly’s engagement session at Surf City Beach, I brought along a beach blanket and some flowers, so we could get some beautiful moments like this 🙂 #Beach-engagement-photo-ideas

For Kelly and Jonathan’s engagement session I really wanted to incorporate some sunflowers to give a pop of unexpected color to their beach portraits.

Soundside Park in Surf City, NC is just absolutely gorgeous at sunset and one of my favorite places to go to for engagement sessions. * sunset engagement photo ideas

I always recommend scheduling portrait sessions near sunset for optimal lighting and for the chance to take advantage of a beautiful sunset backdrop!
